February 13, 2023
Gandhinagar: The maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Gujarat has seen a decline over the past five years, indicating a reduced risk for women during pregnancy.
The Union government stated in the parliament that the MMR in Gujarat, as recorded by the sample registration system, went from 87 during 2015-17 to 57 in 2018-20.
MMR refers to the number of deaths among women due to pregnancy or childbirth, per 100,000 live births, and is used as a measure of the risk associated with pregnancy. Based on the SRS data from 2018-20, Gujarat ranks 13th in the country, with 12 states having a higher MMR. DeshGujarat
