Gujarat ATS exposes active Al-Qaeda India group; 1 Bangladeshi arrested, others detained

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has successfully exposed an active group affiliated with Al Qaeda . During an operation, the ATS apprehended a Bangladeshi individual named Sojib, along with several other suspects who are currently in custody.

In response to an alert from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) regarding a potential terrorist attack, the Gujarat ATS detained 4 suspicious individuals in Narol. Subsequent investigations revealed that these individuals were Bangladeshi nationals.

Deepan Bhadran, DIG of Ahmedabad ATS, informed the media that a complaint has been filed against four individuals, namely Mohammad Sojabmia, Munna Khalid Ansari, Azrul Islam Ansari, and Abdul Latif. They have been charged under sections 38, 39, and 40 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and various relevant sections of the IPC.

According to Bhadran, the accused entered India using fake identification documents and have been residing in the city using the same fraudulent documents. During their stay, they actively engaged in radicalizing youth to join the banned terrorist organization Al-Qaeda. It has also been revealed that the accused were involved in fundraising activities and sending the funds to Bangladesh. Further investigations have uncovered that they are trained in arms, ammunition, and homicide.

Regarding Mohammad Sojibmia, it was found that he first came to India in 2019-20 but returned to Bangladesh before the COVID-19 pandemic. He re-entered India in December 2021 and has been residing in various states of the country. Bhadran also stated that the accused were in contact with individuals from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, with the intention of radicalizing them and recruiting them to join Al-Qaeda .

Efforts are underway to determine if other individuals have been ensnared by this group, and extensive inquiries are being conducted to ascertain the full scope of their operations. DeshGujarat
