CBN seizes over 2,500 kg of poppy straw from truck in Vadodara

Vadodara: The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) seized 2,597 kilograms of poppy straw from a truck near a hotel in the Untiya area of the city.

The operation, conducted by the Madhya Pradesh unit of the CBN, took place on Thursday. Following a tip-off, the CBN intercepted a truck with a Rajasthan number plate near a hotel in Untiya, Vadodara, said an official on Saturday.

After receiving information about the transportation of the poppy straw from Jharkhand to Rajasthan via Gujarat, the CBN implemented surveillance along the route. Once the CBN officers identified the vehicle and stopped it, they discovered that the truck was carrying white plastic bags filled with dry red chilli as cover cargo. Upon further questioning, the vehicle occupant revealed that the poppy straw was hidden behind the cover cargo.

An extensive search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of 104 white plastic bags containing 2,597.850 kg of poppy straw behind the 50 bags of dry red chilli.

The truck, along with the poppy straw and cover cargo, was seized, and one individual has been apprehended under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The officials stated that further investigation is currently underway.

Earlier in the week, the Madhya Pradesh unit of the CBN seized 4,433.45 kg of poppy straw at the Mehsana toll plaza. Two individuals were apprehended in that incident. DeshGujarat
