Cyclone damaged 3700 km roads, 19000 power poles, 121 substations, 1322 communication towers: Gujarat govt

Gandhinagar: Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey in his briefing told media persons this evening that 3700 km length of roads are damaged or closed due to cyclon Biporjoy. He said total 653 kachcha, 66 pakka houses and 175 huts are damaged in cyclone. He further added that 24 ships and boats are damaged in the cyclone. Pandey reiterated that no human death has been reportedly19 linked to cyclone. He said the count of injured persons has gone up at 34.

Pandey said as many as 19,000 electricity poles are uprooted in the state due to cyclone, out of them around 3,000 poles are already restored. He said 121 substations of power supply companies suffered damages, of which 69 have been made functional again. He said as per the survey by the Forest department, 2,000 trees are removed. The count of animal deaths is 92, he added.

Relief Commissioner Pandey further informed that 1322 communication towers have suffered damages. He also informed that NDRF teams from Rajkot are sent to Banaskantha in North Gujarat now. DeshGujarat
