Gujarat CM receives Guinness World Record certificate for largest Yoga gathering in Surat

Surat: A state-level program held in Surat to celebrate International Yoga Day has set a world record with 153,000 citizens participating in yoga practice at a single location.  The representatives of the Guinness Book of World Records here presented the certificate for the creation of a world record to the Gujarat Chief Minister.

Over 1.57 crore citizens across 33 districts of the state joined the ‘Yogmay Gujarat’ campaign. The actual number of participants surpassed the estimated by 32 lakhs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Team Gujarat for Surat’s world record through a tweet.

The state government organized various programs on Yoga Day throughout the state. In addition to 75 significant religious, tourism, historical, educational, and natural sites in Gujarat, diverse programs were conducted to commemorate Yoga Day in all districts. In the state-level program held in Surat, 153,000 citizens practised yoga along a 12.5 km path, earning Team Gujarat a place in the Guinness World Record.

From villages to cities, districts to municipalities, educational institutions to health centres, police headquarters to public spaces, citizens of all ages gathered in large numbers to practice yoga and contribute to building a healthy nation. In various programmes across the state, significant participation was observed, including 35,75,125 in Ahmedabad, 1,82,325 in Amreli, 2,92,972 in Anand, 2,82,456 in Aravalli, 3,25,483 in Banaskantha, 3,24,687 in Bharuch, 5,98,348 in Bhavnagar, 2,14,879 in Botad, 1,98,342 in Chota Udepur, 1,19,248 in Dahod, 1,09,724 in Dang, 1,95,439 in Devbhoomi Dwarka, 5,94,894 in Gandhinagar, 1,92,483 in Gir Somnath, 5,94,349 in Jamnagar, 5,81,786 in Junagadh, 2,99,874 in Kheda, 4,13,498 in Kutch, 1,38,642 in Mahisagar, 4,03,548 in Mehsana, 1,94,823 in Morbi, 1,52,348 in Narmada, 2,98,471 in Navsari, 2,13,684 in Panchmahal, 2,18,124 in Patan, 2,87,642 in Porbandar, 10,58,328 in Rajkot, 2,99,468 in Sabarkantha, 9,81,358 in Surat, 2,95,715 in Surendranagar, 2,16,482 in Tapi, 15,97,482 in Vadodara, and 2,95,743 in Valsad. In total, 157,477,768 people joined yoga practises across the state.

Gujarat Minister of State for Sports and local legislator Harsh Sanghavi said the Yoga Day event in Surat has set a “new Guinness World Record” for the largest gathering of people for a yoga session at one place. DeshGujarat
