Ahmedabad Police honors one Salim Sheikh for showcasing brotherhood during Rath Yatra

Ahmedabad: City Police honoured one Salim Sheikh, a resident of the Shahpur area, on Friday for showcasing the remarkable display of brotherhood during the Rath Yatra on June 20.

Salim Abdul Sheikh’s wife sadly passed away due to illness on the day of the Rath Yatra. Their house, located in the Shahpur area, was on the route of the Rath Yatra procession. It was necessary to transport the deceased wife’s body from the hospital to their home and then to the graveyard.

In the midst of the Rath Yatra preparations, the Ahmedabad Police made arrangements to allow the body to be taken home. The police inquired with Salim Sheikh about the burial arrangements. Salim Shaikh explained that since it was the day of the Rath Yatra festival, the procession would pass in front of their house first, and only after that would they proceed with the burial procession. Sheikh kept his wife’s body at home until the Rath Yatra procession passed, which took approximately five hours.
