June 27, 2023
Mehsana: The Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) in Gandhinagar seized approximately 3,680kg of materials worth around Rs 2.14 lakh during a raid on a firm in Unjha. These materials were being used to produce adulterated cumin seeds (jeera).
It is learned that the owner of the firm, Mahendra Mafatlal Patel, was involved in the manufacturing of these counterfeit cumin seeds. The commissioner of the FDCA, H. G. Koshia, stated that the confiscated items included 1,000 litres of molasses, 350kg of brown powder, 630kg of small fennel seeds, and 2,700kg of duplicate jeeru (cumin seeds).
Samples of the seized materials have been sent to a laboratory for testing. Koshia emphasized that inspections are being carried out at various locations due to the increased occurrence of adulteration, which has been driven by the high prices of cumin seeds. DeshGujarat
