Pilot project of ‘Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana’ launched in Gujarat from Kheda

Kheda: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel today launched the Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Accident Insurance Scheme for labourers. The scheme is a collaboration between the Department of Posts, India Post Payments Bank, and the Ministry of Labor and Employment. The pilot launch of the scheme took place in Nadiad, Gujarat, in coordination with the e-Shram portal in Kheda district.

Gujarat has become the first state in the country to introduce this unique scheme on a pilot basis, aiming to benefit Shram Yogis. The scheme aims to provide financial stability to workers, offering assistance in the event of accidents or death. Workers can avail benefits for death or partial disability, with premiums ranging from 289 to 499 rupees. In case of a worker’s death, their family will receive 10 lakh rupees, while permanent disability due to an accident will make the workers eligible for a sum of 10 lakh rupees. Additionally, the scheme includes education assistance of 1 lakh rupees for the children of deceased workers.

The Chief Minister highlighted the good governance established under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi, where the government prioritizes the welfare of people across the country. Gujarat has greatly benefited from the development-oriented policies of the Prime Minister, with various government schemes significantly improving the standard of living. Examples include the Nal Se Jal Yojana, Ayushman Card, Widow Pension, Ujwala, and Swachh Bharat Mission.

The Chief Minister commended the efforts of the Post Department in providing benefits to beneficiaries through the Gangaswarupa Yojana, reaching door-to-door. He emphasized the increase in digital payments in India and the elimination of intermediaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the Pradhan Mantri Jandhan Yojana.

Union Minister of State for Communications, Mr. Devusinh Chauhan, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel for his support and highlighted the schemes formulated by Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi for the welfare of workers in India.

The minister also mentioned the work carried out by the Post Department during the COVID-19 pandemic, where postal workers facilitated money transfers through money orders when the banking sector was closed. He announced plans to construct more than 5000 post offices across India to provide insurance benefits to a maximum number of people.

The Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana aims to cover 28 crore workers in India, and the scheme will soon be extended to the general public. The minister assured the Chief Minister that within 60 days, 1 lakh poor families in Kheda district would benefit from the scheme.
