Mumbai-Surat Flying Ranee train relaunched with new LHB coaches; No more double-decker coaches

Surat: The Mumbai-Surat Flying Ranee train, which became the first train in the Indian Railways to have double-decker coaches 43 years ago, was relaunched on Sunday with a new look.

The new version of the Flying Ranee no longer features double-decker coaches. The relaunched train now showcases faster and more comfortable Linke Hofmann Buschnew (LHB) coaches. It comprises air-conditioned chair cars, second-class seating coaches, a ladies-only coach, a ladies’ season ticket holders coach, and a general coach.

Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles, Darshana Jardosh, flagged off the train from Mumbai Central Railway Station and also travelled aboard the train.

Jardosh, who is also a Lok Sabha member from the Surat constituency, tweeted about the launch of the enhanced Flying Ranee, expressing excitement for the new era in the Indian Railways. She highlighted the train’s maiden trip to Surat with the new LHB coaches.

The minister also tweeted, “Travelling by train has its own charm – you get to make new friends, you gather some priceless memories and you also get to enjoy India’s landscape.”

It is noteworthy that on December 18, 1979, the Flying Ranee made history by introducing double-decker coaches for the first time in the Indian Railways. However, the train is around 117 years old as it started operation in 1906 and is also believed to be the second oldest train after Golden Temple Mail. DeshGujarat
