Hotel prices skyrocket even in Vadodara for India vs Pakistan Match in World Cup; Airfares surge up to threefold

Vadodara: The highly anticipated Cricket World Cup is set to commence in Ahmedabad on October 5, featuring a thrilling match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium on October 15. Fans from all corners of the country and across the globe are eagerly making arrangements to travel to Ahmedabad and witness this match.

Hotel rooms in Ahmedabad have already been fully booked in anticipation of the October event, with prices soaring beyond Rs. 1.5 lakh. Therefore, people have turned to the nearby city of Vadodara, located about an hour away from Ahmedabad. Here,  hotel room rents witnessed a substantial surge from October 14 to 16, reaching as high as Rs. 35,000, compared to the rates observed in July, which were around Rs. 4,000.

Members of the Vadodara Hotel Association have highlighted the complete transition to online hotel bookings. With the World Cup fervour in mind, booking fares have escalated by six to seven times their usual rates in October. Currently, hotel room rates stand at Rs. 5,000 per night, but it is anticipated that prices will surge to more than Rs. 35,000 during the days when the India-Pakistan World Cup match is scheduled to take place.

On the other hand, the airfares have soared to as much as 3 to 4 times higher than usual from major cities to Ahmedabad. For instance, a round trip from Chennai to Ahmedabad, booked three months in advance on July 15, now costs a staggering Rs 45,425 per person for non-stop flights, compared to the normal rate of approximately Rs 10,000, as stated by industry sources.

Similarly, airfares for flights bound for Vadodara have also witnessed an increase. For instance, a morning flight from Mumbai to Vadodara, which is available at around Rs. 2,300 for July 19, is now priced at over Rs. 4,000 on October 15, the day of the match. DeshGujarat
