A 29 hectares replica of Gir jungle in Rajkot city under development

Rajkot: Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has started the process of developing a forest similar to the Gir jungle across 9 hectares in the lion safari park being developed across 29 hectares of land behind Pradhyuman Park in the city.

The plantation of the plants similar to those in Gir forest will be done in this 29 hectare land. RMC has sent a proposal for a lion safari park to the central zoo authority. RMC developed a zoo in Pradhyuman park in 2011. The lion safari park is being built across 29 hectares of land behind Pradhyuman park near Lalpari lake. The work of fencing on the boundary of the land has been completed.

The number of lions born at the zoo at Pradhyuman Park has reached 50. Zoo superintendent Dr Hirpara said that the staff of the zoo also nurtured 4 cubs who were abandoned by their mothers. The zoo staff used to feed them every 4 hours with milk bottles for several months, he added. DeshGujarat
