After five years gap, Surat BRTS project to witness expansion

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), after 5 years, has planned to expand the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor in the city.
A BRTS corridor will be developed on Surat – Hazira road from Pal RTO to Ichchhapor. A BRTS corridor and bus shelters will be developed in a 1-km area from Pal to Bhatha in the first phase.
The existing corridor is from Adajan Patiya to Pal RTO. SMC has built a dedicated BRTS corridor of 108-km length. BRTS corridor was extended to Kadodara from Puna Kumbhariya in 2018.
BRTS route is currently from Adajan Patiya to Morabhagal Char Rasta and Adajan Patiya to Pal RTO in Adajan. The bus operates every 12 minutes on this route. The locals demanded to extend the corridor to Ichhapor. The work of the feasibility check was handed over to SVNIT to extend the BRTS corridor to Ichhapor from Pal RTO.
In the first phase, a BRTS corridor and bus shelter will be developed in a 1-km area from Pal to Bhatha. A portable bus shelter will be built near Bhulka Vihar school. The route will be extended till Ichhapor further, with 9 bus shelters.
There are 13 BRTS routes in Surat city at present. Total 340 buses operate on the 13 BRTS routes. Around 1.5 lakh passengers travel through the BRTS route every day. DeshGujarat
