Junagadh: A group of people created ruckus at Guru Dattatreya Shikhar mandir atop the Gujarat’s tallest mountain Girnar here as per an application submitted by Dattatreya Trust’s Trustee Kailash Purohit in this regard at Bhavnath Police station.
According to it, on Sunday afternoon, a group of non-Gujarati people who were reportedly staying in Bhavnath based Digambar Jain Dharmshala came to Gurudatt Shikhar and misbehaved with a priest Dipakbapu.
They also hurled things at Datt Bhagwan’s murti and one woman in the group threw a chair near Bhagwan’s charan paduka. They shouted the slogans ‘Girnar is ours and we will take it.(Girnnar hamara hai, hum leke hi rahenge).’
Meanwhile when contacted, Sthanakvasi Jain Sangh Junagadh’s president Hitesh Sanghavi said that every year, the people of Digambar community visit Girnar for Nimanth Ladu Mahotsav. They come from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. They believe that Dattatreya Shikhar based footmark belongs to Neminath Tirthankar of Jain faith, while the Hindus believe that it belongs to Dattatreya. The Jains visit Dattatreya Shikhar and chant slogan hailing Tirthankar Neminath.

Sanghavi claimed that a Sadhu got provoked with these slogans and stood up with a sword in his hand, video footage of which is available. Sanghavi claimed, the Jain pilgrims didn’t file police complaint in this regard because they stay in other States and they would require to visit Junagadh time and again in the course of the case if they file a complaint.
Meanwhile, police cordoned off the dharamshala in which over 200 Jain pilgrims from other States were staying. Police would also question the State Reserve Police (SRP) cop who was on duty atop the Dattatreya Shikhar and also verify the viral videos, as the Jains claim the video was old. DeshGujarat
