BJP distributes tickets to women cadres for World Cup match

Motera: The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 commenced today. The inaugural match of the tournament is being played between England and New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium today from 2 pm. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distributed tickets to women so they can witness this match here today. The stadium on the first day of the World Cup was largely empty otherwise as India was not playing today.

Women from the Naranpura area which is part of Lok Sabha constituency of Home Minister Amit Shah, father of BCCI head Jay Shah, arrived with tickets provided by the BJP in their hands. They mentioned that the World Cup is taking place in India, and they have been given tickets by the BJP to attend the first match. Along with match tickets, tea, breakfast, and lunch have been arranged by BJP. These women had been given a letter featuring pictures of PM Modi and HM Shah. The letter also talks about the recently passed Women’s Reservation Bill.

Stating that the idea of inviting women to the match came with the passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill, BJP leader Lalit Wadhawan told the media on Wednesday, “Around 30,000 to 40,000 women from Ahmedabad will be watching the game in the stadium tomorrow… Tickets have come from the top. You see, the 33 per cent Women’s Reservation Bill has also been passed. These women will be reaching the stadium on their own and will be given tea and food coupons.”

As the first match of the World Cup begins at 2 pm today, stringent security measures have been put in place at the stadium in Ahmedabad. Spectators are gradually entering the stadium, where a three-layer security arrangement is in effect. Attendees are allowed to carry only essential items such as a purse, mobile phone, and key.

Police are inspecting posters to ensure there are no disruptive elements, but posters with relevant match-related content on both sides are permitted.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik has confirmed comprehensive preparations for the match, including a significant police presence with 3 Additional Commissioners, 18 ACPs, 13 DCPs, and over 3,000 personnel, including constables and 500 Home Guards. Traffic diversions have been communicated through social media and websites, and carrying food items, water bottles, and laser lights has been banned.

These stringent security measures aim to ensure a peaceful and successful World Cup event for the England vs. New Zealand match in Ahmedabad, with arrangements in place for attendee convenience after the match concludes. DeshGujarat
