AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava surrenders to police after month on the run

Narmada: Aam Aadmi Party MLA and party’s State unit Working President, Chaitar Vasava, surrendered before the Narmada Police in Dediapada today after being on the run for over a month.  When the MLA arrived at the police station to surrender, a large number of people gathered outside the police station.

Vasava surrendered in connection with a case of extortion, firing, and assault on forest officials at his residence in Bogaj village under his constituency. Following a complaint by the forest dept staffers, an FIR was filed by the police against him, his one of two wives, his secretary, and another person for allegedly threatening forest department officials and firing a shot in the air at his residence on October 30.

Vasava’s first wife, Shakuntala, and his personal assistant Jitendra Vasava, had been arrested, along with a villager from Jhadoli village. However, Vasava himself was on the run.

Last week, while rejecting the anticipatory bail plea of Vasava, the Gujarat High Court noted that “He (Vasava) had no authority to summon forest officers to his house and should not have established a parallel court. If someone has a problem, he should go to court.”

There had been various cases of crime filed against Vasava in the past also when he was not with AAP. DeshGujarat
