PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI IN SURAT

Surat: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is on a visit to the Diamond City in his home state of Gujarat. Today, the Prime Minister is inaugurating the New Integrated Terminal Building of Surat International Airport and the world’s largest corporate office hub, ‘Surat Diamond Bourse.’

The recently constructed terminal facility has the capacity to accommodate 1200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours, and there are provisions to further increase the peak-hour capacity to 3000 passengers, with an annual handling capacity set to reach 55 lakh passengers. Positioned as the gateway to Surat City, the terminal building has been meticulously designed with a focus on local culture and heritage, ensuring that these elements are reflected in both the interior and exterior to create a distinctive sense of place for visitors.

The upgraded terminal’s facade aims to enhance the passenger experience by incorporating the rich and traditional woodwork reminiscent of the old houses in the ‘Rander’ region of Surat City.

The new terminal building, compliant with GRIHA IV standards, boasts various sustainability features, including a double-insulated roofing system, energy-saving canopies, low-heat-gain double glazing units, rainwater harvesting, water treatment and sewage treatment plants, as well as the use of recycled water for landscaping and a solar power plant, among other initiatives.

Additionally, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse, now recognized as the world’s largest office building, surpassing even the USA’s Pentagon. It is poised to become the preeminent and contemporary hub for international diamond and jewelry businesses globally, facilitating the trading of both rough and polished diamonds, along with jewelry. The Bourse will feature a cutting-edge ‘Customs Clearance House’ for import-export activities, a jewelry mall catering to retail jewelry business, and facilities for international banking and safe vaults.
