RS MP Dholakia advocates for better air connectivity for city as 250 offices open at Surat Diamond Bourse
July 07, 2024
Surat: Govind Dholakia, Chairman of the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) Committee and BJP Rajya Sabha MP, highlighted inadequate air connectivity in Surat during the inauguration of 250 offices at the Surat Diamond Bourse today.
Dholakia emphasized the disparity in air connectivity in Surat and compared it to cities like Brussels saying that Brussels, with a population of 2 million, enjoys 300 daily flights, whereas Surat, with a population of 4 million, has only 30 flights.
He further added that cities like Indore, with smaller populations, enjoy better air connectivity, receiving around 100 flights daily. Despite being the ninth largest city by population and the 37th in terms of air passengers, Surat continues to face neglect from various airlines.
He stressed that Surat needs 300 flights daily to stimulate rapid development in the city. Dholakia underscored that this disparity has persisted for decades, urging all airlines to reconsider and increase their operations to and from Surat. DeshGujarat
