Traffic Jam on NH 53 in Surat as locals protest power grid installation
July 16, 2024
Surat: A traffic jam occurred on National Highway 53 in Surat after residents of Kanav village in Palsana blocked traffic in protest against a Power Grid company.
The power grid is installing electricity lines from Borsi in Navsari to Khavda in Kutch, passing through Surat. Alleging that farmers are not receiving appropriate compensation, locals have been protesting for a long time. Today, they came onto the road and blocked traffic on both sides of National Highway 53. Due to the escalating situation, the police rushed to the scene.
One of the protesters told the media, “What will we get for the losses we suffer due to this line? We had met with the collector and asked that we will only cooperate after we get all the information. Permission as per the Telegraph Act was given for the poles of telephone lines, but they are installing a high-tension line.” DeshGujarat
