Ahmedabad: The local police have arrested a robber bride (“Luteri Dulhan”) and two accomplices for marrying a 36-year-old man and fleeing after taking Rs. 2.5 lakh from him. The accused was nabbed after her husband lured her back with a photo of a gold mangalsutra.
Ashish Vaghela, a 36-year-old resident of the Isanpur area in Ahmedabad, works at a petrol pump and had difficulty finding a suitable match due to his age. On June 20th, while visiting his maternal uncle, he met Arvind Nai, his wife Malti Nai, and a man named Ramesh Patel. During the visit, Ashish and his parents were introduced to a Maharashtrian girl named Usha Pandit, whose cousin, Hemant Pandit, was also present. Ashish liked the girl and was ready to marry her. Ramesh Patel then mentioned that the girl’s mother had cancer and needed Rs. 3 lakh for treatment before the marriage. Eventually, Ashish agreed to pay two and a half lakh rupees.
On June 24th, the marriage was registered at the Shahpur Ward Marriage Registration Office. Immediately after the wedding, Ashish handed over the agreed sum to Ramesh Patel. However, six days later, the girl fled to Maharashtra, claiming she needed to visit her ailing mother who was undergoing cancer treatment. Despite several attempts, Ashish was unable to contact his wife. He even transferred Rs. 5,000 online to facilitate her return, but the name “Dipali Jadav” appeared in the transaction, raising his suspicions. To catch the robber bride, Ashish sent her photos of a gold mangalsutra, claiming he had purchased it for her. Lured by the mangalsutra, Usha Pandit returned to Ahmedabad.
When the wife returned, Ashish confronted her about the identity of “Dipali Jadav.” She admitted that the Aadhaar card she had provided under the name Usha Pandit at the time of marriage was fake and that her real name was indeed Dipali Jadav. Ashish then filed a police complaint, leading to the arrest of Dipali Jadav, along with Arvind Nai and Malti Nai, who had facilitated the marriage.
Out of the money received from Ashish, Dipali Jadav kept Rs. 40,000, while the other two accused received Rs. 10,000 each. The remaining amount is believed to have been taken by the main accused, Ramesh Patel, and two other accomplices.
Further investigation by the police revealed that Dipali Jadav had married a man named Viral Soni in Surat a year ago. However, it was said that she had divorced him. The police are investigating whether the accused extorted money from that man as well.
The Isanpur police have registered a case against the girl and other accused under sections related to cheating and creating bogus documents. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend other absconding suspects. DeshGujarat
