Gujarat govt gives approval to construction of 2 bridges in Gondal

Gondal: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today granted in-principle approval to allocate Rs 56.84 crore for the construction of two new four-lane bridges in Gondal.

Under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister’s Urban Development Scheme, Rs 28.02 crore will be allocated for the bridge near Panjarapol in Gondal, and Rs 28.82 crore for the bridge near Government Hospital Chowk.

In Gondal town, there has been significant vehicular traffic from the surrounding villages and talukas over the two bridges, which are over 100 years old, spanning the Gondli River from the royal period.

As the century-old bridge is closed to heavy vehicles, only one route remains available for diversion: National Highway 27 from Gondal to Sureshwar Chowk. Additionally, during heavy rains, water passes through the Weir Cum Causeway, causing this road to close, resulting in considerable inconvenience for all vehicles.

Responding positively to the representations made to him regarding this issue, Chief Minister has approved the allocation of Rs 56.84 crore for this project.

The construction of these two new bridges will facilitate the movement of vehicles traveling from Bhavnagar-Atkot to Junagadh, as well as from Ghoghavdar Movia to Junagadh and Kotda to Jetpur-Junagadh.

In addition to these new bridges, Chief Minister has also approved an allocation of Rs 22.38 crore for the restoration of two surviving bridges, each over 100 years old, on the Gondli River.

Accordingly, the restoration of the Hayat Bridge from Central Talkies to Government Hospital will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 17.90 crore, while the existing Sardar Bridge near Panjarapol will be restored at a cost of Rs 4.47 crore. Both these bridges will be opened for light vehicles, i.e., light motor vehicles.

Motorists will be able to use the two newly constructed bridges for heavy vehicles, thus bypassing traffic in the city. DeshGujarat
