Surat: An NRI named Faisal Patel allegedly gave his wife “triple talaq” through a video sent from London. Patel, originally from Navsari, has been accused of subjecting his wife to both physical and mental abuse. The Lalgate police have booked him under IPC Sections 498A, 323, and 504, along with relevant provisions of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.

The victim, who previously married a man from Navsari in 2006 and had three children, got divorced in 2018 before marrying Faisal Patel in February 2020. After five months of marriage, Patel allegedly stopped supporting her financially and began abusing her. He reportedly traveled frequently to London due to his UK visa and was found to have another family there. When the victim confronted him, Patel allegedly sent a video in April delivering “triple talaq.” She observed the iddat period for three months before filing a complaint on September 3, with an FIR being registered on September 7.
