PM speaks in Lok Sabha on 75th Anniversary of India’s Constitution

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is responding to the debate on the 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution in the Lok Sabha today. On December 13, the Lok Sabha began a two-day discussion to mark the start of the 75th year since the Constitution’s adoption.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh kicked off the discussion with a focus on the Constitution’s historical importance and its role in shaping India’s governance and global standing. He highlighted that the Constitution emerged from extensive deliberations and reflected India’s civilizational values, while criticizing recent efforts to politicize its legacy. Singh also took a swipe at Congress for trying to credit the creation of the Constitution to a single political party, emphasizing that it was a collective effort rooted in India’s cultural and civilizational values.

“There has always been an attempt by a particular party to hijack the work of Constitution-making… Today, I want to make it clear that our Constitution is not the gift of a single party. The Constitution of India was made by the people of India, in accordance with the values of India… Our government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is working with the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas,” Singh stated. He added, “Our Constitution is progressive, inclusive, and transformative… In our country, a person born into a poor family can rise to become the Prime Minister or even the President.”

The winter session of Parliament, which began on November 25, has faced disruptions and is scheduled to conclude on December 20.
