Ground report on the progress of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway’s Ena-Kim Package in Surat

Surat: The 1,386 km-long, eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is being built in two sections, i.e., Delhi-Vadodara and Vadodara-Virar. In this Vadodara-Virar section, Package 6 connects the Ena Interchange (at NH 53) to the Kim Interchange (NH 48), both falling in the Surat district. This package, built by GR Ena Kim Expressway Private Limited, received the Provisional Completion Certificate in January, meaning it is almost ready for public use. However, in this package, two major works are pending: the completion of one side of the Tapi River Bridge and the construction of the Kim Interchange.

Today, we bring you the ground report of this package based on vloggers’ insights and on-site footage. When traveling towards Delhi from Mumbai, the package begins at Ena Interchange at NH 53. Here, a trumpet-like interchange has been built, with most of the work completed. The Toll Plaza and Toll Plaza Office building are ready, with only painting and finishing work ongoing.

As you begin the journey towards Vadodara, you can see that all signage boards and streetlights have been installed. Plantation work is ongoing along the roadside. Speed cameras have also been installed on the expressway, and lane marking and railing work are fully completed. At several locations along the way, solar panels are being installed to power streetlights and cameras.

As we move along the expressway, the Tapi River, which passes through Surat, also falls within this package, and a bridge is being built over it. One side of the bridge is completely ready, while the other side (towards Mumbai) is still under construction, with a girder launcher present at the site.

After traveling on this expressway, when you arrive at Kim Interchange, you can see that work here is still ongoing. Lane marking and other finishing touches are in progress at the interchange. However, as soon as this interchange is ready, the 40-km stretch connecting NH 48 to NH 53 will be ready for public use.

Here, it is important to note that despite this package nearing completion, the Vadodara-Surat route will not be open for commuting anytime soon. Packages 4 (Manubar to Ankleshwar) and 5 (Ankleshwar to Kim Interchange) are still incomplete, with the majority of the pending work concentrated in Package 5, being constructed by M/s Sadbhav Engineering Pvt. Ltd. DeshGujarat
