Vadodara: A 23-year-old law student, Rakshit Chaurasia, allegedly drove his car under the influence of alcohol, crashing into three vehicles in Karelibaug late Wednesday night. The accident left seven people injured and claimed the life of one woman.
Regarding the investigation, Panna Momaya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), addressed a press conference and said,”In yesterday’s incident, the accident occurred when an overspeeding car coming from Karelibaug was passing through Sangam. The accused was nabbed at the location. Multiple teams were formed for the investigation. First, a Panchnama was conducted at the crime scene, and the FSL team collected all the necessary evidence, including tyre marks and blood samples. CCTV footage has been collected and scanned to determine the speed of the vehicle, and forensic analysis will be conducted. Additionally, the entire timeline of the accused’s activities on the day of the incident will be verified using technical sources.”
“A team has been constituted to carry out the postmortem procedure, while the injured are receiving medical treatment with utmost care. As of now, these actions have been taken by the police. The accused’s medical samples have been collected to determine whether they had consumed any drugs or intoxicants, and the FSL report is awaited,” she added.
The vehicle started from Uma Char Rasta and was moving via Karelibaug when the accident occurred near Dipali Society in Sangam. The car is registered in the name of a company and belongs to the father of the other pillion rider in the vehicle at the time of the accident, Mit Pranshu Chauhan.
The senior cop also stated that an FIR has been filed under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Pranshu Chauhan’s medical test has also been conducted, and further action will be taken after the report is received. Since the rapid alcohol test is not admissible in court, the police will have to wait for the FSL report. DeshGujarat
