Japan to give E5, E3 Shinkansen bullet trains for free to India in early 2026: Report
April 15, 2025
Gandhinagar: A news report by The Japan Times, quoting sources and published today, claimed that Japan will give India E5 and E3 Shinkansen high-speed train sets for free for inspection of a partial route of the Ahmedabad–Mumbai high-speed rail project in early 2026. The inspection using these Shinkansen will take place on the Surat–Bilimora route.
India aims to run the E10 Shinkansen in early 2030 when the entire bullet train route is constructed and completed. The Shinkansen used for inspection will be exposed to high temperatures and dusty conditions along the route. The data collected through such inspections will be useful for the introduction of the E10 on this route in the future.
Japan had also given the E0 Shinkansen for free to Taiwan when the high-speed railway was built there using Shinkansen technology, the report says.
