Vadodara: The collapse of the Gambhira bridge in Mujpur village, located in Padra taluka of Vadodara district, was caused by the “crushing of the pedestal and articulation,” according to the preliminary findings of a high-level inquiry committee set up by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, who visited the collapse site on Friday, stated that following the directive of Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, the Roads and Buildings Department has initiated a high-level investigation into the incident. According to the preliminary report by the investigation committee, the bridge collapsed due to pedestal and articulation failure.
Speaking to the media, the State Government Spokesperson and Minister said that the Roads and Buildings Department committee will submit a detailed report within 30 days. The investigation report, including technical and administrative reasons, will be submitted to the Chief Minister. Further decisions will be taken based on the findings.
He added that wherever initial signs of negligence were observed, the state government has suspended four officials of the Roads and Buildings Department. The government will continue to take all necessary steps as required.
He also said that the search operation related to the bridge accident is currently in its final stage. The trapped vehicles have been retrieved, and the bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families. The entire system has responded promptly and with sensitivity. DeshGujarat
