Surat Police seize 100-plus heavy vehicles, including 28 dumpers

Surat: Taking a tough stance against the unregulated movement of heavy vehicles endangering pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, the Surat Traffic Police have launched a strict enforcement drive across city roads. In the special operation conducted over the past two days, police teams have detained 102 heavy vehicles and initiated legal action against 87 vehicle owners and drivers.
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot stated firmly, “If vehicle owners have no concern for the safety of Surat’s citizens, the police need not be concerned about their businesses either.” He further warned that operations of all vehicles found violating regulations would be completely halted.
Legal action has been initiated under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 223, the Motor Vehicles Act, and for violation of public notices. The seized vehicles include 28 dumpers, 15 concrete mixers, 19 trucks, 17 Eicher vehicles, and 8 sand and gravel transporters.
To control the noise and congestion caused by heavy vehicles, Surat Police have coordinated with the Municipal Corporation. According to the Police Commissioner, closure notices have been served to industrial plants supplying vehicles that enter the city during restricted hours. These units, he said, are violating regulations and posing a threat to public safety.
Heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the city between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Any vehicle entering city limits during these restricted hours will attract immediate legal action against both the driver and the owner. Commissioner Gehlot made it clear: “This is not just a notification. The safety of Surat’s residents is our top priority.” DeshGujarat
