Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday virtually inaugurated IndianOil’s new acrylics and oxo-alcohol complex at the Gujarat Refinery in Vadodara.
Set up with an investment of ₹5,894 crore, the facility houses an acrylic acid unit, a butyl acrylate unit, an n-butanol unit, along with a modernized hydrogen generation unit.
According to IndianOil, the advanced plant will convert propylene—a byproduct of the refinery process—into high-value petrochemical products that India had previously been importing in large quantities.
The output from the complex—acrylic acid, butyl acrylate, and oxo-alcohols—has extensive applications in paints, plastics, coatings, adhesives, textiles, glues, as well as various industrial and household products. “Domestic production of these materials will cut down on imports, conserve foreign exchange, strengthen MSMEs, boost downstream industries, and improve India’s global standing in the petrochemical space,” the company noted.
The project also generated nearly 27 lakh man-days of employment during its construction phase, providing a major push to local and regional economic development. DeshGujarat
