Gujarat govt notifies creation of Vav-Tharad district; new district to comprise 8 talukas

Gandhinagar: Following the official approval by the state cabinet on Wednesday, the Government of Gujarat today issued an official notification for the bifurcation of Banaskantha district, resulting in the creation of a new district named Vav-Tharad, effective from 2nd October 2025.
The notification, issued by the Revenue Department under the Gujarat Land Revenue Code, 1879, divides the existing Banaskantha district into two districts:

Banaskantha district – with headquarters at Palanpur

Vav-Tharad district – with headquarters at Tharad
The reorganization also defines the talukas under each district. Banaskantha district will comprise 10 talukas: Palanpur, Vadgam, Danta, Hadad, Amirgadh, Deesa, Kankrej, Ogad, Dhanera, and Dantiwada. While, Vav-Tharad district will comprise 8 talukas: Deodar, Lakhani, Tharad, Rah, Vav, Dharnidhar, Suigam, and Bhabhar.
This move is expected to improve administrative efficiency and bring governance closer to residents in the newly formed district. DeshGujarat
