Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar Metro Reaches Mahatma Mandir on Vijaya Dashami; GMRC Conducts Successful Trial Run
October 02, 2025
Gandhinagar: On the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) conducted successful trial run of Metro Rail in Gandhinagar from the State Secretariat to the final station on the route, Mahatma Mandir.
The metro line, which currently operates up to Secretariat, has now extended its trial operations through five more stations – Akshardham, Old Secretariat, Sector-16, Sector-24, and finally Mahatma Mandir, which is the last Metro station of Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar Metro route phase-2. This has given fresh momentum to the Gandhinagar Metro Rail project.
Following the successful trial, a proposal will be submitted to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for necessary approvals. Once cleared, metro services for citizens up to Mahatma Mandir are expected to begin by the start of the new year.
With this extension, metro connectivity in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will cover 68 kilometers across 53 stations, bringing cheaper, faster, and eco-friendly travel options to thousands of commuters daily.
The launch marks a significant step towards easing urban transportation in the state capital while promoting green mobility for a cleaner future. DeshGujarat
