Kanjipani marriage certificate scam: Panchmahal administration transfers 29 talatis
December 12, 2025
Panchmahal: Days after a scandal over the alleged issuance of marriage certificates for money came to light, the Panchmahal district administration has transferred 29 talatis.
The action followed a viral video of Kanjipani talati Arjun Meghwal, who allegedly claimed he charged Rs 2,500 per marriage certificate and issued nearly 2,000 certificates in 2025, earning about Rs 50 lakh. The controversy deepened after a father approached the police, alleging that a questionable marriage certificate had been issued for his daughter, who had left home to marry.
Meghwal, who was posted in Kanjipani village of Jambughoda taluka and also held charge of three other villages, was arrested after a case was registered against him. Police said he had allegedly removed marriage registration records for 2025, which were later recovered.
District officials have begun verifying marriage certificates issued by other village panchayats, while the police investigation against Meghwal is ongoing. In-charge Panchmahal District Development Officer Dilip Desai said the transfers were made for administrative reasons. DeshGujarat
