Escalation into Arson and Vandalism
As news of the killing spread, the situation took a violent turn. Incensed crowds gathered on the streets, leading to widespread unrest. Mobs targeted shops and set several parked vehicles on fire in the market and Circle areas. Fearing further violence, local traders immediately shut their businesses, creating a curfew-like atmosphere across the town. The fire department was deployed to douse the flames engulfing vehicles and shopfronts.
Official Response and Arrest
Ahmedabad District Superintendent of Police (SP) Omprakash Jat, along with the DySP, reached the spot with a large police convoy to control the situation. Police teams, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Local Crime Branch (LCB), have also been deployed in sensitive areas.
The SP confirmed that the accused, Rizwan, has been arrested. Local MLA Kalu Dabhi also visited the hospital and met community leaders, appealing for peace. He stated that following high-level meetings between community elders and police officials, the situation is gradually stabilising.
Current Situation
Authorities said the situation is now under control and crowds have been dispersed. Police have issued a stern warning against the spread of rumours and stated that efforts are underway to identify those involved in arson and vandalism using surveillance footage.
The incident has raised concerns in the region, drawing comparisons to the earlier high-profile murder case of Kishan Bharwad in Dhandhuka, which had also led to widespread unrest. Police continue to patrol the area to ensure peace while legal proceedings against Rizwan move forward. DeshGujarat
