Gujarati Play Writer from Vadodara Files Case Against Director Suresh Rajda Over Alleged Copyright Violation

Vadodara: A case has been registered at Sayajiganj police station against Mumbai-based director Suresh Gokuldas Rajda following allegations of copyright violation made by writer Vihang Baldevbhai Mehta.

According to the complaint filed in court, Vihang Mehta, a resident of Alkapuri Kunj Society in Vadodara, had known Rajda for several years as they had worked together in the past. Mehta stated that he had shared his written plays, stories, and other works with Rajda for safekeeping.

The complaint alleges that Rajda used Mehta’s work without permission and presented a play originally written by Mehta, titled “We Know Who You Are,” under a different name, “Dial Wrong Number,” crediting himself.

Further, the complaint stated that Rajda had access to around 17 of Mehta’s plays written between 1979 and 2009. It was alleged that during 2021–22, some of these works were used in a project titled “Hello” without proper authorization, with Rajda claiming writer credits.

The matter was brought before the court, where it was also stated that no prior action had been taken on the complaint. Following court directions, Sayajiganj police registered a case against Rajda under provisions of the Copyright Act and initiated further investigation.

Police officials confirmed that action was taken as per the court’s order and the case is under inquiry. DeshGujarat
