Man Killed in Crocodile Attack on Orsang River Bank in Dabhoi

Vadodara: A heartbreaking incident took place in Paragam village of Dabhoi taluka of Vadodara district on Sunday. An elderly man who had gone fishing on the banks of the Orsang River was attacked by a crocodile and died on the spot.

According to the information received, due to the monsoon, the Orsang River is currently flowing bank-to-bank, and with the increasing water inflow, aquatic creatures, including crocodiles, are coming to the shore. Bazariya Nayak, a resident of Paragam, had gone to the river bank for fishing. During that time, a huge crocodile that came out of the water suddenly attacked him. The attack was so fatal that he did not get a chance to save himself, and he died on the spot due to serious injuries.

On learning of the incident, a large number of villagers rushed to the river bank. The locals immediately informed the Forest Department. Dabhoi police also reached the spot, took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem, and are taking further action.

According to locals, there have been several incidents of crocodiles attacking villagers and livestock in the Orsang River in the past. During the monsoon, as the water level in the river rises, crocodiles come towards the banks, creating an atmosphere of fear among the people living along the river. The villagers have demanded that the Forest Department and the administration put up caution boards along the river banks, increase surveillance in dangerous areas, and take effective action to catch crocodiles coming near human settlements and move them to a safe place so that such accidents can be prevented in the future.
