Amit Shah launches ₹815 crore projects in Gujarat; Lays foundation for 2 Sabarmati River Barrages virtually

Gandhinagar: Union Home and Cooperation Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah on Tuesday virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹815 crore in Gandhinagar and Sabarkantha districts.

Addressing the gathering virtually, HM Amit Shah said that the newly constructed Aluva–Sadra Bridge, built at a cost of ₹89 crore, will boost tourism around the Jakshini Mata Temple while providing smoother connectivity for residents, students, and devotees. He further said that the newly inaugurated Community Health Centre at Charada will offer round-the-clock dialysis services, an operation theatre, NICU facilities, and advanced healthcare services, benefiting more than one lakh people from the surrounding areas.

He added that the inauguration of the Community Hall at Raniyapura in Mansa, the ESR water tank at Alkapuri, and the well-equipped Sanskar Bhavan Trust building at Bapupura village will further strengthen public welfare and improve civic amenities.

Lauding the contribution of Padma Shri and Jnanpith Award-winning eminent litterateur Raghuveer Chaudhari, who brought national recognition to Mansa and Charada, Shah said that despite rising from a humble family of farmers and livestock rearers to the pinnacle of literary excellence, he remained deeply rooted in his values and humble by nature. He said the Sanskar Bhavan named in his honour will inspire future generations.

Speaking about the permanent solution to irrigation and drinking water challenges, Shah said that two major barrages will be constructed on the Sabarmati River. He said the barrages will enable water to be stored in the river for nearly eight months in areas including Charada, Mansa, and Ridrol. This is expected to raise groundwater levels by 5 to 10 feet, benefiting farmers and livestock rearers while also promoting tourism and wildlife conservation.

He further stated that a state-of-the-art Civil Hospital is being constructed in the Mansa region so that residents will no longer have to travel to Gandhinagar for advanced medical treatment. He said the hospital will work in coordination with nearby Community Health Centres to provide quality healthcare services.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that development is no longer confined to cities but has reached the homes of the poor, the underprivileged, and people living in the remotest villages. He said development is not just about creating infrastructure, but about bringing convenience, security, and prosperity into people’s lives. Referring to the e-inauguration of the Aluva–Sadra Bridge, he said it would become a bridge of trust for the people.

The CM further stated that thousands of families from Aluva, Sadra, and nearby villages will benefit from easier, faster, and safer travel. He said the bridge will make it easier for farmers to transport their produce to markets, while students and patients will gain better access to educational institutions and healthcare services.

He also referred to the inauguration and foundation laying of several development projects related to healthcare, water conservation, education, and social infrastructure. He said that roads create new opportunities for employment, health centres strengthen public well-being, and expanded educational facilities pave the way for a brighter and more prosperous future.

Highlighting that a large-scale tree plantation campaign has been undertaken across the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, the CM noted that around 1.25 crore trees have recently been planted, including lakhs of saplings planted within a single hour using the Miyawaki method, setting a unique example of green development.

On this occasion, Minister of State for Water Resources Ishwarsinh Patel said that the Gujarat Government’s Water Supply and Irrigation Department has been working continuously to rejuvenate the Sabarmati River and ensure a sustained water supply. As part of these efforts, foundation stones were laid today for the ₹413.63-crore barrage at Hirak village on the Sabarmati River and the ₹302.51-crore Rakhiyal Barrage, with a combined project cost of ₹716.14 crore.
