55 Gujarat Towns to Get GIS-Based Development Plans Under AMRUT 2.0

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has started preparing Geographic Information System (GIS)-based development plans, also known as master plans, for 55 towns with populations between 50,000 and one lakh. The project, estimated to cost around ₹40 crore, is being implemented under the Centre’s AMRUT 2.0 mission and is expected to be completed by March 2027.

Under the scheme, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will provide ₹70 lakh per town to support the preparation of GIS-based master plans. The initiative aims to ensure planned urban growth in smaller towns across the state.

As part of the project, drone surveys will be carried out to accurately map land features, including elevation and terrain. The Survey of India is preparing the geo-database, following which Gujarat Town Planning Consultancy Limited, the state’s nodal agency, will prepare individual development plans for each town.

The state government has also trained around 60 officers and employees of the Urban Development Department to build skilled manpower for preparing GIS-based master plans.

The 55 towns selected under the project are Anjar, Balasinor, Bardoli, Bavla, Bhachau, Bilimora, Borsad, Chaklasi, Dabhoi, Dahod, Dehgam, Dhandhuka, Dhanera, Dholka, Dhoraji, Dhrangadhra, Halol, Himmatnagar, Idar, Jambusar, Jasdan, Kadi, Kapadvanj, Karamsad, Keshod, Khambhaliya, Khambhat, Kodinar, Limbdi, Lunawada, Mahuva, Mandvi, Mangrol, Modasa, Mundra-Baroi, Okha, Padra, Palitana, Petlad, Radhanpur, Rajula, Ranavav, Sanand, Savarkundla, Siddhapur, Sihor, Thangadh, Umargam, Una, Unjha, Upleta, Viramgam, Visnagar, Vyara, and Wankaner.
