Civil Works Complete on 97-km Surat – Vapi Section of Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: Centre

New Delhi: The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has achieved significant construction milestones in Gujarat, with the entire 97-km Surat–Vapi section completing all civil works, including river bridges, and 86% of the track bed already laid, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha.

Replying to a question in the Upper House, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project (508 km) is under execution. The project passes through the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, with 12 stations planned at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.

The entire land (1,389.5 hectares) for the MAHSR project has been acquired. All statutory clearances have been obtained, and all 1,651 utilities have been shifted. The delay in land acquisition in the state of Maharashtra impacted the project till 2021. Land acquisition picked up in Maharashtra in 2022.

On the Surat–Vapi section (97 km), entire civil works, including river bridge construction, have been completed, and 86% of the track bed has been laid.

“Bullet train project is a very complex and technology-intensive project. Exact timelines for the completion of the entire project can be reasonably ascertained after the completion of all associated works of civil structures, track, electrical, signalling and telecommunication, and supply of trainsets,” the Minister added.
