No More Police Station Visits for Passport Verification in Gujarat, Directs State DGP

Gandhinagar: Gujarat State Police Chief Gyanendrasinh Malik has issued strict directives simplifying the passport verification process, eliminating the requirement for applicants to physically visit police stations.

Under the new guidelines, police verification will focus exclusively on verifying the applicant’s citizenship and checking for any criminal antecedents. Separate, physical verification of the applicant’s residential address by local police is no longer required, nor is obtaining an in-person signature.

Key Directives Issued to Police Stations:

• No Police Station Visits: Applicants are not required to visit police stations for routine passport verification.

• Focused Scope: Verification is strictly limited to citizenship status and criminal history checks.

• Address & In-Person Verification Exempted: Standalone address checks and mandatory physical meetings/signatures are discontinued for routine applications.

• Exception Protocol: Physical site visits to an applicant’s residence will only be conducted in exceptional cases where specific doubts or red flags arise. Even in such scenarios, applicants must not be summoned to the police station.
