Surat: A five-year-old girl died and four members of her family are undergoing treatment after they allegedly suffered food poisoning following a meal ordered from a restaurant in Surat’s Varachha area on August 15.
The deceased has been identified as Arya, a resident of Ranujadham Society. Her parents and two elder sisters are currently undergoing treatment at Sadvichar Hospital, where their condition is reported to be critical.
According to the relatives, they had ordered two Punjabi dishes, including cashew and paneer preparations, from Sheetal Restaurant on the night of August 15. The family members reportedly began falling ill one after another after consuming the food.
Family member Bhaveshbhai Kalsaria said Ashokbhai Chakurbhai Kalsaria and his family had the meal on August 15. Around 4 am on August 16, Ashokbhai and one of his daughters developed severe stomach pain. They initially visited a local clinic and received medication and intravenous treatment, but their condition did not improve. By the afternoon, other family members also began experiencing health problems.
As their condition deteriorated, the family was taken to Sadvichar Hospital, where a team of doctors began treating them. Arya, however, died after being brought to the emergency department, according to the family.
Medical examinations of the four surviving family members undergoing treatment reportedly indicated food poisoning. They remain admitted to the hospital.
The deceased girl’s body has been sent for a panel postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
The family has appealed to the police and senior authorities for an impartial investigation and strict legal action if negligence or violations are found on the part of the restaurant. They have also sought justice for the deceased child and the affected family members. DeshGujarat
