September 13, 2026
Surat, September 13: Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Sunday inaugurated several new and upgraded healthcare facilities at New Civil Hospital and Government Medical College, Surat, including a 30-bed state-of-the-art dialysis centre and expanded critical-care infrastructure.
The Medical ICU and Surgical ICU have each been expanded from 10 to 20 beds, while an Isolation ICU for organ donation patients, an upgraded Emergency Department and a new patient Help Desk were also inaugurated.
Sanghavi said the 1,500-bed Civil Hospital caters to 4,500–5,000 OPD patients daily, with its doctors and nursing staff providing round-the-clock care. He particularly praised the nursing teams for caring for patients who have no family support.
Highlighting Surat’s expanding healthcare infrastructure, Sanghavi said the city, which once had only one dialysis centre, now has more than 30 centres. He also lauded the Civil Hospital’s organ donation team for its contribution to saving lives.
Recalling the COVID-19 pandemic, he praised doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers for their round-the-clock service and urged the hospital fraternity to make Civil Hospital a model of cleanliness and quality treatment.
Minister of State for Health Prafulbhai Pansheriya called for greater focus on cleanliness, discipline and patient care. He also praised the Surat and Ahmedabad Civil Hospital teams for their work in organ donation and said efforts were underway to make people take pride in the state’s public healthcare institutions.
Pansheriya further highlighted the ongoing construction of a 1,500-bed hospital at Kamrej and said ragging in medical institutions would not be tolerated.
The programme was attended by MLA Sangeetaben Patil, senior health officials, doctors, nursing and support staff, representatives of NGOs and service organisations, donors and other dignitaries.
