Car crashes into dumper truck on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Surat; 4 dead

Surat: Four members of a family were killed after their speeding car crashed into the rear of a stationary dumper truck on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Kamrej in Surat this morning.

According to preliminary information, the family was travelling from Mumbai to Patan to visit the Shankheshwar temple when the accident occurred near Digas village, under the jurisdiction of Kamrej police station.

The dumper had reportedly stopped on the expressway after developing a technical problem with its air-pressure system. While the vehicle was stationary and its driver was inspecting it, the Tata Harrier approaching from behind reportedly failed to stop in time and rammed into the dumper.

The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the car completely mangled. All four occupants sustained critical injuries and died at the spot.

After receiving information about the accident, a team from Kamrej police reached the site and began rescue and traffic management operations. Traffic movement on the expressway was briefly disrupted but was later restored.

Police shifted the bodies to Kamrej Community Health Centre for post-mortem examinations and have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash.

The accident has also raised concerns about safety measures for vehicles forced to stop on the expressway due to technical problems. DeshGujarat
