Insect found inside sealed Jalaram Soda bottle; Jamnagar factory fined ₹5,000

Jamnagar: An insect was allegedly found inside a sealed bottle of packaged soda supplied by Jalaram Soda in Jamnagar, prompting a complaint to the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation’s Food Department and raising questions over the quality and safety of packaged beverages.

According to the complaint, a shopkeeper in the Shankar Tekri area had received a consignment of Jalaram Soda bottles from the manufacturer. During an inspection of the consignment, an insect was allegedly spotted inside one of the bottles, which was reportedly sealed.

The shopkeeper subsequently contacted the Jalaram Soda factory to report the matter and sought an explanation. However, according to the complainant, the factory operator allegedly did not take the matter seriously and gave an evasive response.

Following the incident, the shopkeeper approached the JMC Food Department and lodged a complaint, seeking an investigation into the alleged contamination.

 

Acting on the complaint, officials from the civic body’s Food Department reportedly inspected the Jalaram Soda factory. The team also collected samples of soda bottles for further examination. The factory operator was reportedly issued a notice and fined ₹5,000 in connection with the matter.

The incident has raised concerns over food safety and quality-control practices in the manufacturing and bottling of packaged beverages. If the bottle was indeed sealed when the insect was found inside, the investigation will need to establish how the foreign object entered the bottle and whether there were any lapses during the manufacturing, bottling, storage or distribution process.
