Ahmedabad gets 2 new Crime Branch field units; 2 more to be operational soon

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has expanded its field operations with the launch of two new units, while two more are planned to strengthen surveillance and monitor criminals and anti-social elements more closely.

The two units were inaugurated on Friday by city police chief Anupam Singh Gahlout as the city continues to grow, with expanding residential, industrial and commercial areas. Officials said the move aims to make the Crime Branch more field-oriented and preventive, with teams focusing on patrolling, gathering local intelligence, tracking criminal networks and responding quickly to information about suspicious activities.

Unit-1, based in Vatva, will cover Vatva, Ramol, Rakhial and adjoining GIDC and industrial areas.

Unit-2, based in Singarva, will cover Nikol, Krishnanagar, Bapunagar, Amraiwadi and Rakhial.

The proposed Unit-3 will cover Sabarmati, Motera, Ranip, Naranpura, Wadaj and areas around the airport, while Unit-4, based in Bodakdev, will cover Bodakdev, Vastrapur, Gota, Ghatlodia, Gujarat University, Sarkhej and Vejalpur.

The new units will coordinate with local police and focus on bootleggers, gamblers, drug dealers, repeat offenders and other anti-social elements.

An official release said the initiative aims to ensure that no area becomes a safe haven for criminals and that suspicious or illegal activities remain under police surveillance. DeshGujarat
