Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Ahmedabad Customs intercepted a passenger carrying 973.23 grams of hydroponic marijuana at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) on Tuesday, officials said.
The passenger, a Surat resident, had arrived in Ahmedabad from Bangkok and was intercepted based on passenger profiling, according to investigators.
During a search of his cabin baggage, customs officials found a paper carry bag containing two plastic packets. The packets contained 30 small printed packets labelled as containing ‘dehydrated guava’. However, officers found a green-coloured substance inside the packets.
A preliminary test using an NDPS field testing kit indicated that the substance was ganja (marijuana). The total weight of the seized substance was recorded at 973.23 grams, officials said.
The contraband was seized and the passenger was arrested under provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the consignment and identify its intended recipient, officials said. DeshGujarat
