October 10, 2026
Sabarkantha: More than 75 Hindu families belonging to the Rawat (Chenwa) community in Ganeshpura village of Idar taluka in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district have threatened to leave the village, alleging persistent harassment, intimidation and restrictions on religious and cultural celebrations by members of the Muslim community.
The families have sought intervention from the district authorities, stating that they would be forced to migrate if their safety is not ensured and their complaints are not addressed.
According to the allegations made by the Hindu residents, disputes have repeatedly arisen during Navratri, Holi, weddings and religious processions over the playing of music and DJ systems. They claim that they have faced threats and demands to stop or lower the volume of music during such events.
The complainants have also alleged verbal abuse, threats and inappropriate behaviour targeting women and young girls in the village. These allegations are yet to be established through an official inquiry.
Representatives of the affected families, accompanied by members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, met senior police officials at the Sabarkantha Superintendent of Police’s office and submitted a written complaint seeking action against those allegedly responsible.
Following the representation, police personnel were deployed in Ganeshpura to maintain law and order and prevent any escalation of tensions.
An official inquiry is underway to examine the allegations and assess the security situation in the village. Further action is expected based on the findings of the investigation.
The threatened exodus has raised concerns over the situation in the village, with the affected Hindu families demanding security and action on their complaints. The allegations against members of the Muslim community remain subject to investigation. DeshGujarat
