Air India Frankfurt-Delhi Flight Diverted After Ahmedabad ATC Receives ‘Hijack’ Alert

Ahmedabad: An Air India flight from Frankfurt, Germany, to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday after its pilot reportedly issued a suspected hijack alert. Flight AI-2030 landed safely at Jaipur International Airport at 9:35 am and was moved to an isolation bay for security checks. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating the incident, according to sources.

Initial checks indicated that the aircraft’s operations were normal. However, authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the alert and the activation of the aircraft’s emergency transponder code.

According to preliminary information, Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC) received a brief emergency signal from the aircraft around 9 am. The pilot reportedly activated Squawk 7500, an internationally recognised transponder code used to discreetly alert air traffic control to a hijacking or unlawful interference.

Following the alert, security agencies were informed. At around 9:10 am, officials at Delhi airport’s war room decided to divert the aircraft to Jaipur as a precautionary measure. The plane was subsequently moved to the airport’s isolation bay at around 9:45 am for further inspection.

In a statement, Adani Airport management confirmed that all passengers aboard AI-2030 were safe and were being deboarded. It said the situation was normal and urged passengers and their relatives not to panic.

Passengers would be boarded again for their onward journey to Delhi after the necessary procedures, the statement added. The airport operator said further updates would be provided as the situation developed. DeshGujarat
