October 15, 2026
Surat: The Surat City Crime Branch has arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly preparing forged documents to help an Afghan national obtain an Indian passport using a false identity.
The accused, Sajuddin, alias Agajan Shamshoddin Saiyed, allegedly prepared a fake birth certificate claiming that Mohammad Amir Javid Khan, an Afghan national arrested in November 2025, was born in Maharashtra’s Jalna district. Police said he charged ₹5,000 for the certificate, which was allegedly used to obtain an Indian passport and other official documents.
Khan was arrested on November 21, 2025, for allegedly living in Surat using forged documents. During interrogation, he reportedly told police that he wanted to settle permanently in India due to the situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
Investigators identified Sajuddin, a Jalna resident, as an alleged accomplice in procuring the documents. He had reportedly been evading arrest and was staying in Mumbai’s Nagpada area before securing anticipatory bail from the Gujarat High Court. He was arrested after appearing before the Surat Crime Branch.
Police are investigating whether other agents or government officials were involved in the alleged racket. DeshGujarat
