Fake Ghee Factory Busted in Vadodara; 10,000 Litres Stock Seized

Vadodara: A suspected counterfeit ghee manufacturing operation has been uncovered at Chalisa Foods in Ramangamdi, in the Por GIDC industrial area of Vadodara district.

During a raid at the factory, the Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) seized a tanker containing around 10,000 litres of suspected adulterated ghee, along with a large stock of packaged products reportedly worth lakhs of rupees.

According to preliminary findings, the suspected adulterated ghee was allegedly prepared using palmolein oil and other chemicals to replicate the aroma and granular texture of pure cow ghee. The products were reportedly packaged and sold under several brand names, raising concerns about the scale of the operation and its potential impact on public health.

Officials reportedly found 15-kg tins, jars and pouches bearing brand names such as Girdhan, Ghee King, Amrut Ghee, Radha Keshav, Ratnagiri and Shree Vindhyachal at the facility. Packaging materials bearing the name of Chalisa Foods were also found on the premises.

The suspected products were allegedly being prepared for distribution in Ahmedabad and Surat, as well as in Rajasthan and other states. The findings have raised concerns about a possible supply network extending beyond Gujarat.

The FDCA has collected samples of the suspected adulterated products and sent them for laboratory testing. The exact composition of the products and the extent of the alleged adulteration will be established through further investigation and laboratory results. DeshGujarat
