2.1 Kg Ganja Seized at Ahmedabad Airport; Passenger, Receiver Both Held

Ahmedabad: Customs officials seized around 2.1 kg of suspected marijuana from a passenger arriving from Ho Chi Minh City at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) on Saturday. The passenger was intercepted by the Customs Department’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) based on passenger profiling.

A search of his baggage led to the recovery of seven vacuum-sealed packets containing a green-coloured substance concealed inside a black handbag. The packets weighed approximately 2,117 grams, including packaging, according to a Customs Department release.

Preliminary tests conducted by a scientific officer from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Ahmedabad, indicated the presence of marijuana (ganja) in all seven packets, the release stated.

Investigators also arrested a man who had arrived at the airport to receive the passenger. According to an officer associated with the probe, the man had allegedly coordinated the passenger’s travel arrangements at the behest of individuals based abroad.

WhatsApp chats recovered during the investigation reportedly contained communications related to the passenger’s travel arrangements and baggage, the officer said. DeshGujarat
