Lion Injured After Being Hit by Goods Train in Amreli; Forest Dept Launches Search

Amreli: The Forest Department launched a search operation after a lion was reportedly hit by a goods train on the railway tracks between Liliya and Damnagar in Amreli district early Thursday morning. The train, travelling from Pipavav Port towards Dhasa, came to a halt following the incident.

The incident came to light after a lion’s tail and fur were found on the tracks. A Forest Department team reached the spot and began searching the surrounding area for the animal. However, the lion had not been located at the time of reporting, and its condition remained unknown.

Daksha Bharai, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) for the Amreli division, said the incident occurred on the railway line in Lathi taluka, between track markers 18/9 and 18/8. A detailed search and investigation were underway to determine what had happened to the lion.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of Asiatic lions near railway tracks in the region. Wildlife enthusiasts have also raised questions about the absence of dedicated railway guards or patrol teams to monitor lion movement along the tracks.

Although the area has a relatively low density of lions, wildlife enthusiasts have called for stronger safeguards to prevent such incidents. DeshGujarat
